From July 4th to 5th, 2024, the Chinese Tug-of-War Tournament, hosted by the Chinese Tug-of-War Association and the Shandong Administration of Sports, and organized by the Shandong Tug-of-War Association, was held at the Shandong Provincial Sports Center. The Shanghai Zhongqiao Vocational and Technical University tug-of-war team, led by the university's Deputy Secretary of Party Committee Zhu Fanxin and coached by Wang Jiliang from the Basic Teaching Department, participated in the competition.
The competition attracted top domestic professional tug-of-war teams. This event was the first public competition for the Zhongqiao University tug-of-war team participated this year. As the only student team on the field, the Zhongqiao team stood out with their positive energy, unity, and fighting spirit. They bravely faced strong opponents, advancing through the rounds to ultimately achieve fifth place in the mixed group 580 kg category and were awarded the "Spiritual Civilization Award."
In a highly competitive environment, several Zhongqiao team members continued to compete despite injuries, demonstrating their fearless and tenacious spirit, which earned high praise from their opponents. Every time the Zhongqiao team appeared, the audience erupted in applause. The Zhongqiao University tug-of-war team showcased not only their solid fundamental skills but also the spirited, united, and indomitable spirit of Zhongqiao youth. After the competition, He Zhenwen, the chairman of the Chinese Tug-of-War Association, visited the Zhongqiao rest area to praise the team and encouraged them to strive for even better results in the upcoming competitions. Coaches from Qingdao Port Group and Shandong Energy Group also extended job offers to the graduating team members.
With competitive tug-of-war included in the Federation of University Sports of China’s project list, the sport's development in universities has gained momentum. The National College Students Tug-of-War Championship is set to kick off in the second half of this year.
